Visitors to the Isolated Island

Visitors to the Isolated Island is the second book in the Ryuuzen Clan series, which we translated third after starting with book three because Mitsuda is kind of a wreck. Veering away from the story of Kamo and Rena (though you'll already know how they connect if you read them in the order we did them), Visitors to the Isolated Island instead tells the story of Rena's cousin Yuki and a woman named Mikumo Echika (who you'll recognize if you read them in the order we did them). Both working in the entertainment industry, the two of them are part of a crew sent to Kakuriyo Island. Nominally, they're part of the film crew for a true crime documentary about "The Beast of Kakuriyo Island" that wiped out the small island's population 45 years ago, but other plans are being made: Revenge. Ryuuzen Yuki's childhood friend Naoko once worked for JTV, before her conscience got the better of her and she tried to report her inhumanly corrupt superiors for their...

Epilogue: Aboard

Friday, October 18, 2019, 5:10 P.M.       As the boat rocked beneath his feet, Yuki gazed blankly at the horizon. The sea breeze wasn't very strong today, and the cloudy sky was making the water's surface reflect a dull color. He heard a small “mew” and looked down to see Fuwawa, wrapped in a towel, looking up at him. Cats aren't supposed to be good swimmers, but luckily for them, Fuwawa was wild. When Yuki arrived at the point where the Visitor had sank, Fuwawa was barely managing to keep her head above water with a doggy paddle. It was a bit annoying that her first impulse was to climb onto his face, though. As Yuki treaded water, holding the kitten up with his right hand and being tossed about by the waves, a life preserver fell over him. ...It was the captain of the boat. He climbed back aboard and rinsed himself off with a water bottle, but he still felt salt clinging to his hair. Fuwawa was also carefully washed with water and wiped, but she still felt dirty and...

Chapter Ten: Aboard, Post Incident

Friday, October 18, 2019, 2:25 P.M.   From the ship's deck, Yuki watched Kakuriyo Island fade into the distance like a forgotten nightmare. The boat arrived at 1:40 P.M. Fortunately, by then the waves had calmed to the point where the boat could safely dock. En route to the island, the captain had seen the rising smoke and called the fire department... as well as the police. It would only take a few hours before they both arrived on Kakuriyo Island. The six survivors had all boarded the boat in the name of transporting the injured to a hospital. Motegi's fever continued to rise and fall, and he really did need to go to a hospital as soon as possible. In addition, Yuki and Mikumo had sustained minor burns on their arms from the explosion... and the other three had small cuts from when the blast sent window glass flying. After first aid was administered, Yuki asked the other five to meet him on deck, without the captain's presence. Shigaraki did as he was asked and came up, b...

Chapter Nine: Main Island, Summation (2)

The whole group looked down at a perfect, clear ocean. The waves were still high, but the sea looked to finally be calming down. They were all holding a hoodie, within which was wrapped the Visitor. The sphere was unusually heavy... just as Eiko's notes had said, it felt to weigh about twenty kilograms. Motegi, exhausted from the heat, leaned against Saijou, and Fuwawa poked her head out of Yuki's bag. However... Tara wasn't with them. He hadn't been released from the waiting room before the explosion. Saijou and Yanagawa both showed clear regret that they'd forgotten about Tara in the heat of the moment. But Yuki had known that was inevitable. Nobody could make calm, level-headed decisions like that while their own lives hung in the balance. Black smoke continued to rise from the former community center. The scene was still visible from the port. By the time they'd left, the entire building was engulfed in raging flames. It was only a matter of time until the b...

Friday, October 18, 2019, 6:55 A.M.   “Well then, as requested, let's begin... the second stage of the Mystery of the Ambush.” After making the declaration, Yuki looked around at everyone in the hallway. Even Motegi, who was the one to introduce the idea, looked so shocked that he forgot he was in pain. “You don't mean you've figured out who's the Visitor?” Seeing Saijou's eyes about to pop out, Yuki gave a small nod. “I think I can explain everything, including everything the Visitor has done since the evening of the day before yesterday, and how it killed Producer Kikyo.” Yanagawa looked a bit skeptical. “But how could anyone here in the multipurpose area have dunit? It ain't possible!” “Certainly, no one could have gotten past Tara's keen eyes and through the hallway. So, the answer is simple... the Visitor wasn't one of the people in the multipurpose area. It was somewhere else.” “But the only one outside o' here was Tara, and yer the one who sa...
